2018 Imperial Springs International Forum

Over 30 Club de Madrid Members attended the 2018 Imperial Springs International Forum, held on the 10th to 11th of December, which focused on ‘Advancing Reform and Opening Up, Promoting Win-Win Cooperation’.

The ACFEA, Club de Madrid, the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the People’s Government of Guangdong, were the co-partners of this event, which provided a great platform for international exchange and co-operation.

ACFEA’s Founder and Co-Patron Dr Chau Chak Wing, Co-Patron Major-General Hon Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC attended the forum, and were joined by ACFEA’s CEO Michael W Harkins MVO PSM, and ACFEA’s board members Jim Harrowell AM and David Thomas.

Dr Chau Chak Wing, Chair of the Asia-Pacific Region World Leadership Alliance – Club de Madrid President’s Circle expressed the need for bilateral understanding.

“I strongly believe that in our global system, it is important for China to understand more about the world and its partners, and also for the world to understand China,” Dr Chau said.

“As an Australian businessman doing business in China, I am proud to play a role in supporting the ‘opening up’ of China as it means more opportunities for Australia and the world,” Dr Chau said.

Moreover, the community village setup of Imperial Springs promotes a completely new experience in international forum participation. In other forums, interaction between participants is restricted by the size of the venue and the formally structured event programme. The layout of Imperial Springs allows participants to build personal relationships with one another as they are all living like neighbours. This provides more opportunities for further interactions between participants after the formal proceedings, allowing them to have more open dialogues with each other.

In addition to the successful outcomes of the forum, during the Imperial Springs Presidential Cup Invitation Tournament, one million RMB was raised and donated to UNICEF.

Overall, the ACFEA is proud to have participated in organising this event.
