AUSTRALIAN VETERANS HONOURED IN AUSTRALIA DAY COMMEMORATION EVENT

Australian Chinese veterans and current service members of the Australian Defence Force have been commemorated at an event on Australia Day 2019.

The Australia China Friendship and Exchange Association (ACFEA) was proud to sponsor the event, which brought together a wide range of community and ex-service organisations.

Speaking at the commemoration, ACFEA board member Jim Harrowell AM noted the pride, courage and distinction that Chinese Australian ex-service men and women have served Australia.

Mr Harrowell was joined by board member Dr Frank Alafaci to lay a commemorative wreath on behalf of the ACFEA.

The event was held at the Australian-Chinese Ex-Services Monument, which commemorates the sacrifice made by Australians of Chinese heritage in the Australian Defence Forces and Merchant Navy during the Boer War, WWI, WWII, in Malaya, Korea and Vietnam, along with those serving today.

Other organisations in attendance included Returned and Services League of Australia (NSW Branch), Australian Chinese Ex-Services National Reunion, Officers of the Australian Defence Force, Officers of the St Johns Ambulance NSW, Lions Clubs of District 201N5, and the Australian Chinese Community Commemoration Organising Committee.
